Description
Tricolored Heron in Neck Tucked Pose ©Debra Martz Like many Herons, this species has a very long neck. But when they tuck their neck into the chest area it gives them a completely different look. This was one of several poses this Heron gave me when it landed close by. Captured from a boardwalk over the wetlands on South Padre Island, Texas.

Alt Text: A close-up profile captures a Tricolored heron with a ruffled plume of blue-gray, purple and white feathers, its sharp eye indicating alertness. The bird's elongated beak with vibrant yellow lores stand out against the soft, blurred background, giving a sense of depth to the image.
